Where to Print It

A plain guide to turning your download into something you can hang or hold: where to go, what settings to pick, and what it actually costs.

Last updated September 2026

Before You Print

  1. Print at 100%, or "Actual Size." Never "Fit to Page." Fit to Page shrinks or stretches your art, and it stops matching your frame.
  2. Choose matte photo paper or heavy cardstock, not plain paper. (Matte is the non-shiny kind. Cardstock is thick, like a greeting card.) Set quality to Best.
  3. Print the file you downloaded, from a real PDF or photo app, not a browser preview or a screenshot. A browser can print a blurry stand-in instead of your real file. Before you order, check the crop preview so you know what you're getting.

What You Have

Wall art (Afrohemian sets)

Your files are PNG images, already sized at 12x16 inches at 300 dpi, a 3:4 shape (taller than it is wide, like a classic postcard stretched tall). They're already print-shop ready. No converting needed.

No-crop sizes: 6x8, 9x12, 12x16, 18x24, 24x32. Order one of these and nothing gets cut off.

8x10 or 11x14 frame instead? Those are a slightly different shape, so the print counter will crop a little off the edges. Choose "fill" (not "fit" or "stretch") when you upload, and check the preview before you order.

Kits and planners (PDF)

These come as a PDF. FedEx Office, Staples, Office Depot, the UPS Store, and most public libraries will print it exactly as it is. No converting needed.

Want one page printed at a photo counter instead (Walgreens, CVS, Walmart)? Those only take JPG or PNG. Export that one page first:

  1. Open the PDF page you want.
  2. Mac: File then Export, choose JPEG. Windows: Print, choose "Microsoft Print to PDF," then open that in Photos and Save As.
  3. Upload the JPG at the photo counter.

Where to Print

Three kinds of places take your file, and they take different formats. Here's who takes what.

Same-day counters Takes PDF

FedEx Office, Staples, Office Depot, the UPS Store, and most public libraries. Good for the planner and kit PDFs, and for a big tiled poster page. Call ahead to check hours, sizes, and same-day cutoff times before you go.

Photo counters Takes PNG or JPG

Walgreens, CVS, Walmart. Same-day at most stores, and coupons are common. Your Afrohemian art files upload here as-is. Anything you started as a PDF needs the JPG export step above first.

Mail-order labs Takes PNG or JPG

Prices below were read on each lab's own site, September 9, 2026. Prices change, so treat these as a starting point.

  • Nations Photo Lab: 8x10 from $2.98, 11x14 from $6.38, 16x20 from $12.79, on lustre (a soft-shine finish, not glossy, not flat matte) or glossy paper.
  • Posterjack: 8x10 $4.00, 11x14 $8.00, 16x20 $16.00, 18x24 $18.00, on satin matte poster paper. A fine-art cotton paper option starts at $10.00 for 8x10.
  • Bay Photo Lab: 8x10 from $3.55, 11x14 from $7.69, 16x20 from $24.99, on lustre or glossy paper. A fine-art paper option is also available.
  • Printique: fine-art cotton paper prints, several textures. Pricing changes by size, call or check current pricing when you order.
  • Mpix: a range of finishes, including a fine-art paper option. Call or check current pricing when you order.
  • FinerWorks: the widest choice of fine-art papers of the group. Doesn't take PDF, so convert to JPG or PNG first. Call or check current pricing when you order.

We list these to save you time; we do not control their machines. Order one small test print first. The Afrohemian palettes run deep, and dark prints go muddy on the wrong paper.

Black-Owned Print Shops

We are vetting Black-owned print shops in Columbus and across the country so we can list them first. Know one that prints single posters for individuals? Email hello@dawnpressco.com.

Reserved for the first verified shop: name, city, phone, and the date we called and confirmed it.

Frames

Buy your frame by the print size, and your mat by its opening size, not the outer frame size, so your print isn't cropped.

Common Questions

Is this a physical item?

No. Every Dawn Press Co listing is an instant digital download — a PDF or image file. Nothing ships to your door. You print it yourself at home or at a print shop, as many times as you want, forever.

Where do I print it?

Right here on this page. Planner and kit PDFs go to same-day counters like FedEx Office, Staples, Office Depot, the UPS Store, or your public library. Wall-art image files go to photo counters like Walgreens, CVS, or Walmart, or to a mail-order lab such as Nations Photo Lab or Posterjack. See "Where to Print" above for who takes what.

Will it print at the right size?

Yes, if you print at 100%, or "Actual Size." Never choose "Fit to Page" — that setting shrinks or stretches the art so it stops matching your frame. Check the crop preview before you order, especially on wall art sized outside the no-crop list.

Is the word search really large print?

Yes. The Large Print Word Search sets its puzzle letters at 19pt bold, above the common 18pt-and-up large-print standard, so the grid stays comfortable to read without a magnifier.

What sizes do the wall-art files come in?

Every Afrohemian wall-art file is a 12x16 inch PNG at 300 dpi, a 3:4 shape. No-crop sizes are 6x8, 9x12, 12x16, 18x24, and 24x32 — order one of these and nothing gets cut off. An 8x10 or 11x14 frame works too, with a small crop at the edges.
